Bodybuilding Programs - Getting Started

If you want to build some muscles, you will need a good bodybuilding program to achieve this goal, and that training program may not be what you have in mind at this very moment. You probably see yourself in the gym, lifting weights, for a considerable number of hours every day. If this is your plan, forget it. It won't work, and will most likely lead to injury more than build muscles.

Start by learning some basic anatomy - you need to know where the major muscles and organs are located in your body. These muscles will be discussed a great deal, and if you don't know where they are, you will be lost from the very start.

Bodybuilding programs have these elements:

- Strength Training
- Endurance Training
- Aerobic Exercise
- Proper Nutrition
- Proper Rest

Strength training is done in the gym, but can be accomplished in as little as three minutes, three times a week, working two muscle groups each day, for approximately one and a half minutes. Endurance training comes from a mix of strength training and aerobic exercise. It is your ability to endure, and this isn't even something that you really need to think about as long as you are doing everything else. If you want your muscles to grow, you have to feed them properly. Follow a good diet for body building. Include protein, as well as other needed vitamins, minerals, and nutrients. Also, you may think that aerobic exercise is only needed if you want to lose weight. Losing weight typically is not what all bodybuilders are trying to do, however, aerobic exercise is still necessary. It will help to build muscle, keep fat off and strengthen the heart. Finally, you need rest. Your muscles don't grow when you are lifting weights. Muscles grow when you are resting, after lifting weights, when the muscles are repairing themselves.
